Introduction

Darul Hadis Latifiah is pleased to introduce a new part-time Islamic programme designed for students aged 16 and above who wish to build a strong foundation in essential Islamic knowledge. The Islamic Essentials Course provides structured teaching in core subjects required for every Muslim, delivered in a disciplined learning environment and supported by pastoral care and tarbiyah.

Programme Overview

2-Year structured programme

Access to female teachers and scholars

Pathway into the Alimiyyah
Students aged 16+ have the opportunity to study a formal Islamic programme that leads to higher learning, delivered on-site with qualified teachers. Males and females will be taught in separate classes. Upon completion, students may continue for a further 3 years, completing the Alimiyyah track at Darul Hadis Latifiah.

Arabic Language

  • Madinah Arabic Book 1
  • Madinah Arabic Book 2
  • Supplementary Sarf & Nahw texts (teacher-selected extracts)
  • Arabic Literature handouts and short passages
  • Reading, writing and sentence formation
  • Sarf: verb patterns, conjugation, root-based understanding
  • Nahw: grammatical cases, sentence structure (jumlah ismiyyah & jumlah fi‘liyyah)
  • Vocabulary building from Qur’anic and classical usage
  • Reading comprehension and translation of short Arabic texts
  • Introduction to Arabic morphology analysis
  • Basic composition and understanding of Arabic style and balaghah (introductory level)

Qur’an Translation (Juz 30 & Juz 1)

  • Selected Tafsir summaries
  • Arabic text of the Qur’an (Juz ‘Amma & Juz 1)
  • Word-by-word translation
  • Key vocabulary and Qur’anic phrases
  • Context (asbab al-nuzul) of selected surahs
  • Core themes: Tawheed, Prophethood, Akhirah, moral reform
  • Practical lessons extracted from each surah
  • Developing confidence in understanding basic Qur’anic Arabic
  • Memorisation of essential vocabulary lists

Hadith Studies

  • Arbaeen an-Nawawi
  • Mishkat al-Masabih (Book of Iman; Book of Knowledge)
  • Understanding foundational hadiths on faith, sincerity, worship, character and ethics
  • Key principles of Hadith interpretation
  • Basic introduction to terminology (matan, sanad, sahih, da‘if – introductory level)
  • Extracting practical guidance from hadiths
  • Daily application and spiritual development through prophetic teachings

Fiqh (Mukhtasar al-Quduri)

  • Mukhtasar al-Quduri — selected chapters
  • Taharah (purification): wudu, ghusl, menstruation, impurities
  • Salah (prayer): conditions, pillars, rulings for missed prayers
  • Zakah: who must give it, calculation principles, distribution
  • Sawm: rulings of Ramadan, exemptions, valid/invalid fasts
  • Introduction to basic fiqh methodology (how rulings are derived)
  • Practical everyday fiqh
  • Understanding Hanafi legal structure
  • Implementing rulings correctly in real life
  • Developing awareness of difference of opinion

Aqeedah (Belief)

  • Aqeedah al-Tahawiyyah (selected lines)
  • The six pillars of faith
  • Divine attributes (without anthropomorphism or denial)
  • Angels, divine scriptures, prophets & messengers
  • Qiyamah (Day of Judgement) and life after death
  • Qadar (Divine decree) and its correct understanding
  • Importance of correct belief in daily worship
  • Differences between essential aqeedah and subsidiary theological discussions

Seerah (Life of the Prophet ï·º)

  • Classical Seerah summaries and teacher-prepared notes
  • Key events supported by reliable narrations
  • The early life of the Prophet ï·º
  • Makkan period: challenges, early Muslims, major milestones
  • Madinan period: community building, character, key battles
  • Prophetic leadership, mercy, forbearance and decision-making
  • Extracting moral and spiritual lessons for modern life
  • Chronology and key companions

Tazkiyah (Spiritual Development)

  • Classical texts (excerpts) such as Ihya ‘Ulum al-Din, al-Risalah al-Qushayriyyah (teacher-selected passages)
  • Prophetic sayings and Qur’anic verses on purification
  • Purification of the heart from pride, envy, anger, greed
  • Developing sincerity, gratitude, patience and humility
  • Understanding nafs, qalb and ruh
  • Daily practical tazkiyah practices
  • Building good habits and abandoning harmful ones
  • Ethical conduct, manners (adab) and self-discipline

Entry Requirements

* This course is open to complete beginners
* It is recommended for students that can confidently recite the Holy Qur'an

Certification & Next Steps

* Students who complete the two years will receive a Diploma Certificate in Islamic Essentials.
* After completion of the two years, students may continue for a further three-years, leading to the completion of the Alimiyyah.

Class Structure & Teaching

  • Male and female students study separately
  • Qualified teachers, including female teachers for the female class

  • Emphasis on manners, confidence, punctuality and Islamic character
  • Pastoral care and ongoing tarbiyah throughout the programme

Fees

  • £350 per term
  • £1,000 per year if paid in full at the beginning of the academic year
