PSHCE/RSE/SMSC
At Darul Hadis Latifiah, our Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE), Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development are delivered within an Islamic framework, ensuring our students develop the knowledge, values, and skills to lead positive, fulfilling lives. Our curriculum is designed in line with both government guidelines and our Islamic ethos, promoting British, while nurturing a strong sense of identity and responsibility as Muslims.
PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education)
Through our PSHCE programme, students gain essential life skills that enable them to make informed choices regarding their health, wellbeing, and social responsibilities. Topics such as mental and physical health, emotional literacy, citizenship, and financial management are covered through structured lessons. Students are encouraged to develop self-awareness, resilience, and responsible decision-making, preparing them for their future roles in society, both as British citizens and Muslims.
We enrich our students’ PSHCE learning through focused drop-down days and themed assemblies. These days provide an opportunity to step away from regular lessons and engage deeply with specific topics that are vital for students’ personal, social, and spiritual development. Themes such as mental health awareness, online safety, anti-bullying, respect for others, and community cohesion are explored in an interactive and engaging way, allowing students to reflect on key issues beyond the usual classroom environment.
Drop-Down Days
Our drop-down days are dedicated to exploring PSHCE-related topics in depth. These may include workshops, guest speakers, and group activities, all designed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge on issues such as healthy relationships, mental and physical wellbeing, financial education, and careers planning. By creating a space for extended focus on these areas, students are able to develop a more nuanced understanding of how these topics impact their lives and future choices.
Additionally, we often collaborate with external organisations to deliver expert-led sessions, providing students with up-to-date, relevant information that prepares them for the challenges they may face in adulthood.
Assembly Themes
Our school assemblies frequently reflect PSHCE themes, helping reinforce the key values of respect, tolerance, and social responsibility. Through carefully curated assembly topics, we link the Islamic teachings on compassion, justice, and community service with the broader themes of British values, such as democracy and the rule of law. This helps students see how their faith and citizenship can work together to promote a harmonious society.
Guest speakers from various fields are often invited to speak during assemblies, sharing their experiences and offering students insight into different career paths, as well as social and moral issues. This not only supports our PSHCE programme but also broadens students’ understanding of the diverse world around them.
Linking with Other Schools
In promoting mutual respect and tolerance, Darul Hadis Latifiah also builds connections with other schools in the area. Through joint activities, inter-school events, and collaborative learning projects, students have the opportunity to engage with peers from different backgrounds. This helps to foster a spirit of cooperation and understanding, broadening their perspectives and reinforcing the importance of tolerance and respect in a diverse society.
RSE (Relationships and Sex Education)
Our RSE curriculum is delivered with sensitivity to students’ ages and backgrounds, ensuring it is appropriate and considerate of their Islamic values. We emphasise the importance of healthy, respectful relationships, family life, and emotional wellbeing, covering these topics in a manner that is aligned with both government guidance and the moral teachings of Islam. Our aim is to provide students with the knowledge they need to navigate relationships in a respectful and informed manner, while ensuring the content is taught in a way that is sensitive to cultural and religious values.
SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development)
SMSC is woven throughout school life at Darul Hadis Latifiah, from dedicated lessons to school assemblies and extracurricular activities. Our curriculum encourages students to reflect on their spiritual journey, engage in moral and ethical discussions, and contribute positively to society. We emphasise Islamic values such as compassion, integrity, and respect for diversity while promoting British values like democracy, tolerance, and the rule of law.
These important subjects are not limited to PSHCE or RSE lessons, but are incorporated into all aspects of the curriculum and regularly reinforced in assemblies, preparing our students for life in both the modern world and as practising Muslims.
