Introduction
The Islamic Higher Education (IHE) curriculum at Darul Hadis Latifiah spans four years, with each year building upon the last to deepen the students' understanding of the Islamic sciences. Below is a brief description of the subjects taught across the programme, structured year by year:
Alim (1st Year)
A foundational study of the sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad ï·º. Students engage with selected Hadith from Mishkat, learning to understand the methodology behind their collection as well the chapters pertaining to Iman (Faith).
This subject introduces students to the science of Hadith classification, covering the principles behind evaluating the authenticity of narrations and understanding their chain of transmission.
Focuses on the essentials of worship according to the Hanafi school of thought, covering subjects like purification, prayer, fasting, and Zakat based on the well-acclaimed Mukhtasar al-Quduri.
In this subject, students focus on the translation of the final 10 surahs and Surah al-Baqarah, learning the linguistic and interpretative nuances.
A comprehensive study of the rules of Arabic grammar to enhance students' ability to understand classical Islamic texts in their original language.
Students are introduced to key works in Arabic literature, developing their ability to comprehend and analyse classical Arabic prose and poetry.
This course covers the early history of Islam, with particular focus on the life of Prophet Muhammad ï·º.
A study of Islamic laws related to inheritance, focusing on the division of estates according to Islamic guidelines.
Alim (2nd Year)
Continuing from the first year, students delve deeper into the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad ï·º, focusing on the chapters of Adab (Etiquette).
A more advanced study of Hadith sciences, exploring the grading of narrations and the various types of chains of transmission (Isnad).
In this year, students study more complex aspects of Islamic jurisprudence, particularly in areas such as Hajj, marriage, and divorce.
Introduces students to the fundamental principles of deriving Islamic law (Shariah) from the Qur’an and Sunnah, using Usul al-Shashi, a well-known primer.
A continuation of Arabic grammar studies, focusing on more complex linguistic structures and their application in Islamic texts.
Further exploration of classical Arabic literature, with an emphasis on understanding complex linguistic and literary devices used in classical texts.
A more detailed study of early Islamic history, with a focus on the caliphates and the major events that shaped the Islamic world.
A foundational study of Islamic theology (Aqeedah), using the famous text by Imam Tahawi to explore the core beliefs of a Muslim.
Fadil (3rd Year)
Students continue to deepen their knowledge of the Hadith, with an emphasis on understanding their legal and spiritual implications.
Advanced study of Hadith sciences, exploring more intricate methodologies of Hadith verification and classification.
Students engage with more advanced areas of Hanafi Fiqh, delving into the rules of financial transactions, and other complex legal matters.
In this year, students study Nur al-Anwar, an advanced text on the principles of Islamic jurisprudence, providing deeper insight into the reasoning behind legal rulings, covering the chapters of Sunnah, Ijma’ and Qiyas.
Advanced grammar studies, focusing on mastering the language to read and interpret complex legal and theological texts.
Students explore classical Arabic literature in greater depth, enhancing their ability to critically engage with Islamic scholarly works.
An introduction to the interpretation of the Qur’an using the renowned commentary Tafsir al-Jalalain, which explains the meanings of the verses in a concise and clear manner, covering surahs Yasin, Saffat and Saad.
A foundational study of Islamic theology (Aqeedah), using the famous text by Imam Tahawi to explore the core beliefs of a Muslim.
This subject teaches the methodologies of interpreting the Qur’an, using classical texts such as al-Fawz al-Kabir.
A more advanced study of Islamic theology, focusing on the beliefs of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah, using Nasafiyyah.
An introduction to Islamic spirituality, focusing on personal development and purification of the soul in line with the teachings of classical scholars.
Kamil (4th Year)
In the final year, students study selections from the six major books of Hadith—Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Nasa’i, and Ibn Majah—developing a deep understanding of the sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
An advanced study of the principles of Hadith sciences using the renowned text Nukhbah al-Fikar and its commentary Nuzhah al-Nazar, which explores the most intricate details of Hadith methodology.
Students study Tafsir al-Baidawi, one of the most respected and scholarly works on Qur’anic commentary, delving deep into the meanings and linguistic intricacies of the Qur’an.
Using al-Itqan, students study the principles and methods used by classical scholars to interpret the Qur’an and derive rulings from its verses.
The final year covers the major events and developments in Islamic history, focusing on their impact on contemporary Islamic thought.
